Free-Carrier-Induced Ferroelectricity in Layered Perovskites

چکیده

Doping ferroelectrics with carriers is often detrimental to polarization. This makes the design and discovery of metals that undergo a ferroelectric-like transition challenging. In this letter, we show from first principles oxygen octahedral rotations in perovskites are enhanced by electron doping, can be used as means strengthen structural polarization certain hybrid-improper -- compounds which not stabilized long range Coulomb interactions but instead induced trilinear coupling rotations. We use strategy predict cation ordered Ruddlesden-Popper compound driven into metallic phase via electrolyte gating.

Understanding ferroelectricity in layered perovskites: new ideas and insights from theory and experiments.

ABO(3) perovskites have fascinated solid-state chemists and physicists for decades because they display a seemingly inexhaustible variety of chemical and physical properties. However, despite the diversity of properties found among perovskites, very few of these materials are ferroelectric, or even polar, in bulk. In this Perspective, we highlight recent theoretical and experimental studies tha...

The nature of free-carrier transport in organometal halide perovskites

Organometal halide perovskites are attracting great attention as promising material for solar cells because of their high power conversion efficiency. The high performance has been attributed to the existence of free charge carriers and their large diffusion lengths, but the nature of carrier transport at the atomistic level remains elusive. Here, nonadiabatic quantum molecular dynamics simulat...

Ferroelectricity in the magnetic E-phase of orthorhombic perovskites.

We show that the symmetry of the spin zigzag chain E phase of the orthorhombic perovskite manganites and nickelates allows for the existence of a finite ferroelectric polarization. The proposed microscopic mechanism is independent of spin-orbit coupling. We predict that the polarization induced by the E-type magnetic order can potentially be enhanced by up to 2 orders of magnitude with respect ...

Charge carrier mobility in hybrid halide perovskites

The charge transport properties of hybrid halide perovskites are investigated with a combination of density functional theory including van der Waals interaction and the Boltzmann theory for diffusive transport in the relaxation time approximation. We find the mobility of electrons to be in the range 5-10 cm(2)V(-1)s(-1) and that for holes within 1-5 cm(2)V(-1)s(-1), where the variations depend...
